Lady In The Water

Jaimie had her dips in the pool two times this weekend, on both the afternoons of Saturday and Sunday. Yeah, it's one of those rare weekends where we didn't hop into the car and drive down to town/ a shopping mall/ Changi Airport/ Botanic Gardens etc, and just decided to have stay-at-home afternoons instead.

It was just before the Saturday session that we realised that Jae's inflatable swim vest was lost. Either we had placed it in one super obscure corner in the house that we simply couldn't locate it, or we had left it at the swimming pool during our previous trip there a couple weeks ago.

Without her swim vest, Jae couldn't swim (float, actually) independently. She isn't very good with the swim board (hers takes the form of a chick/duck that looks like the Piyo Piyo character) yet. Unlike the case with the vest, which she'd grown very comfortable with, Jae lacks confidence in handling the swim board. She'd still always demand that we support parts of her (e.g. arms, legs, torso) even when she's clinging on to the swim board with both hands. Also, Jae has yet to develop enough confidence to (voluntarily) submerge her head underwater. She's able to blow bubbles with her mouth just underwater but that's about it. Wonder how those swimming coaches teach timid kids on overcoming their fear of water...

for my case, its a matter of mun jar..when my girls were like Jaimie, i taught them to use the float and they were ok but if daddy is around, they will "sink" and cry for daddy's attention!

so I decided to throw them to the swimming coach and they swan without float in less than 6mths!

Simply love this nice picture!

No worries, she will soon swim like a fish under swimming coach's guidance.

Recall from my swimming teahcing lessons:

for water confidence, you can play games, like:

1. count your toes/touch your waters under water: Get your child to touch his/her toes when he/she is standing in water to about chest level. Inevitably, he/she will have to submerge their heads in water.
2. Jack in a box: You perform first then get them to imitate. Curl your body underwater, then jump/spring up (like star jump)/jack in a box.
3. Retrieve things from the bottom of the pool: Place weighted/brightly colour stuff in the pool for your child to retreive. E.g. water bottle partially filled with water. (This is a safe choice)
4. If your pool has tiles with high definition grids, get your child to walk and count the grids.. walk with legs first, then with hands (at more advanced levels).
5. If your child can spell/write, get him/her to use foot to spell his/her name by 'writing' on the bottom of the pool. or younger kids, maybe draw straight lines/circles.
6. Kiss bottom of pool with body parts. E.g. foot, knees, palms, buttocks...develop to tummy/cheek (advanced level)

Precautions: Attempt only with adult's presence.

Benefits: fun and divert their attention from fear of water.

This pic of Jae is very nice! :)

At her age, I think it is normal to behaves this way or she is probably getting attention from daddy :)

I might dip in the pool two times a day if I have one at my doorstep!

Okay, a bit 夸张, but my girls would definitely ask to swim every wkend if it's that convenient, they LOVE waterplay, esp in a pool!(my baby already splashing me WET in her tub :P) Then I need to go swim all by myself when the girls nap, so 2 times a day lah! (I know I'm just dreaming~)

Anyway, I would like to think that Jae's Piyopiyo look-a-like board is a duck becoz of it's round beak ;)
